Hello, in order to adapt to the keto diet after gallbladder removal, it is best to follow these guidelines: smaller and more frequent meals, slowly adding keto foods to your diet, and consuming soluble fiber from supplements and low-calorie vegetables.

If you find that your body is having a hard time digesting fatty foods, try some of these guidelines:

  • For the first two weeks after surgery, follow a moderate fat diet and slowly increase your fat intake until you are on a keto diet by the end of the month.
  • Supplement your diet with gallbladder supplements to help your body digest fat.
  • Consume MCT oil to supplement your fat intake. These fatty acids are much easier to digest, increase ketone levels and do not require bile for proper absorption.
  • Consume ginger or ginger tea to help improve fat digestion.
  • Consume plenty of potassium, sodium, and magnesium.

Once your body adjusts to digesting fat without the gallbladder, you will most likely be able to follow keto without any problems. For most people, this will take about a month.
